Essaouira

Essaouira, pronounced ESA-WEERA, is one of the most popular seaside towns for romantics, independent travelers, and those who appreciate unspoiled destinations a bit off the "beaten path". There's a magnificent beach, a relaxed atmosphere, and a medieval ambiance that makes it truly special.

Features

The heart of the town, the old Medina, is surrounded by fortifications that are a mixture of Portugese, French, and Berber influences. Their massive size lends a special mystique to the town, but inside you'll find nothing but charm. Essaouira is also known for its windsurfing, so beachcombers and sunbathers should be prepared for some strong Atlantic winds.

Essaouira is known for its white-painted houses with a bright blue trim. You'll see this everywhere on the wide streets of the Medina. You can further enjoy the view by stopping at one of the many sidewalk cafes. Horse and camel rentals are available on the beach.

Hotels & Attractions

The harbour is always bustling with activity and you can choose your meal and watch it being cooked on an open fire. Essaouira is featured in our Atlantic Coast Camel Caravan and our Photographer's Safari, but it is also an ideal destination for honeymoons and romantic getaways.
The Riad Al Medina is our favorite accommodation in Essaouira.
